Once and for all (by Sarah Dessen)

Synopsis

Louna is a 17-year-old girl working during the summer to help her mother and business partner, William organize weddings. She meets Ethan right after one, on the beach before she realizes what sunsets and beaches can make her experience. One night. One love. One moment and it all comes crashing down. Ambrose, the annoying guy with no boundaries for women is also the inevitable second chance Louna has been waiting for.

I give

It’s true there might be no plot to this story

The chapters have been building up to the painful moment of her tragic discovery spoiler
That her first love of 24/48 hours died in a shooting

I think a better structure of the book would have been if her first love story was told parallel to her second chance however her 24/48 hour lasting love should have lasted maybe a week at least and she shouldn’t have exactly spoiler slept with him on the same night she met him.

I loved how realistically annoying Ambrose was to the point where I found him deeply annoying. That shows how well of a  job the author had done by creating our dearest Ambrose but I’ll admit a hanging curl that he kept brushing away made me think of this

not exactly attractive but that’s just me

The last 5 chapters have been an emotional rollercoaster where I almost cried about three times and got emotional the whole way through (we can blame the background music)

No character development but the read was so suitable for the weather and time that I let that and a few things slip

This book was more of a 3.6 stars out of 5

So Louna is a 17 year old girl employed By her mother And business partner William (they acted more like a married couple) and she’s got an entire summer working to organize weddings and everything wedding related but she only holds a few responsibilities like coffee and wrapping.

She meets Ambrose when he delays his mom’s wedding because his priorities are flirting with cute girls in parking lots. Fuckboy alert.

She drags him in and that’s when Ambrose darling is smitten by the young girl he can’t have. I’m still unsure about his age I think he might have graduated already so maybe he’s a college guy?

Her first love is another cute guy named Ethan of whom we already know how his story ends when the shooting is first mentioned in chapter 1/2

We both looked over at her. "What is it?" Jilly asked. She looked up at us, startled like she'd forgotten we were there. "Sorry. I was just... it's the news. There's been a shooting." I felt a prickle at the back of my neck, hairs raising up.

Ambrose and Louna make a bet and the story revolves around who loses first spoiler him when he realizes he’s fallen for her

The only good thing we have between them is cake scene and dollar store scene and that’s it

"I'm not going to pretend to be engaged to Ambrose!"

"Engaged?" He grinned at me. "Oh, this should be fun."

"Should we talk motivation?" Ambrose said to me. "Want to develop our backstory? How long we've been together, all that?"

"No," I said flatly, jabbing a finger a picture of a cake, flowers trailing off it.

"I think," he continued, ignoring me, "that we met cute. Like, you dropped a kitten, and I picked it up for you."

"Why would I drop a kitten?"

After writing all this I realize this book is more of a 3 but the experience was pretty great and I’m no longer having a readers block!

HELLO 2018!

Red Queen (Victoria Aveyard, #1)

In a world of fantasy, there are people split into two categories, those with silver blood blessed with extraordinary powers and those with red blood living an unfortunate lives to serve the army that keeps losing and to work endlessly. Mare Barrow is almost eighteen and the only work she found was theft, by the time she turns eighteen and she doesn't have work, she will be sent to war with the rest of her brothers. When she comes across a stranger and tries to steal from him, later finding herself work at the Silver Palace because of him. She discovers she's something more between those glass walls, she's got powers too and she's willing to use them if it means fixing the world. This may be more of a story about revenge and breaking the system, rather than a romance story. She's torn between the brother she has to marry, Maven, the shadow to his older brother, and Cal, the leader and warrior.

I give
★★★✩
The reason for it was mainly how it was written. Or perhaps the lack of chemistry between Mare and every possible guy she could have a relationship with. Kilorn, Cal and Maven. Though, I found it difficult to root for any relationship, I think the character made it easier for me to despise Cal and love Maven or Kilorn more. Even so, with the awful/amazing plot twist, I love, love, love the devil!

I think I might've seen everything coming. It's never good when someone is too perfect, that's for sure.

Will I recommend this to anyone? Yes. I have a feeling the second book is a lot better.

There was so much I liked about this book so i'm just going to go ahead and make a list. WE all love lists!

Things I loved!

1. She's a strong protagonist with a huge heart. She's got the powers of Silver people but is a Red blooded person in the heart and mind.
2. She has no idea how to be the prince's fiance. She's got no Silver manners and has no idea how to act like a royal woman.
3. Her powers consist of creating electricity. If that's not badass, I don't know what is. Fire would've been too much of a cliche, mostly because I play dota and Lina exists.
4. We don't know who she'll end up with. There's the shadow boy, whom we want her to be with because he didn't have it all like Cal did. Not his father's attention, nor the women's. He's good with words but terrible in action. Can't say the same for Cal, whom we all find attractive because he's the alpha. So really, who is it going to be?! And then there's Kilorn. I like him, he's stubborn and not regal. And his character development is grand compared to the beginning.
5. She gets have a cool bodyguard. I adore Lucas, and I wish it didn't have to end that way with him.
6. Not everybody in this book really dies, so what am I to expect in the next book!? hint Shade hint
7. I expected one of the brothers to betray the king, I never thought it wouldn't be Cal.
8. There are others like her! Whaaa- I can't wait to see what powers everyone else has.
9. There's so much p
retending and she's so bad at it, it's pretty amusing and worrying because any moment, she could be making a wrong move to expose herself. It's pretty great.
10. The cameras she always felt, were they Maven's all along?!
11. The whole idea of her preferring the brother she's not supposed to marry is just overwhelming and beautiful.
12. The whole betrayal theme going on is pretty great too. What goes around come back around. She wants to betray Cal for them rebels, instead she gets betrayed by the person she least expected. The moment of realization was unbelievable, simply mind-blowing.

Things I disliked.

1. Does Evangeline really believe her powers were "tricks"?
2. She gives up too easily. But then again she never signed up for this, and who said joining those rebels was going to be easy?!
3. I couldn't love Maven until he turned evil.
4. Am I ever going to like Cal? I know I did at first, I don't know what stopped. Oh, right, he kisses his brother's fiance. That just ... yeah.
5. The king's death is too fast.

Even more do things change when they both realize they're neighbors. And who wouldn't want to live across from pretty blue eyes with abs to die for.

I give

Well...

I love Jennifer L. Armentrout's books. I really do. Not this one. It was good. Worthy of reading. But not enough to make me want to recommend it. Maybe for readers trying to get into the YA genre, this would be a warm up.
But it's a cliche.
All of it.
The entire freaking book is just the most typical, overused alpha-shygirl bundle of sadness and I, for one, am sick of it. Not the mention that the protagonist was awfully annoying. Why the three stars you ask!? I don't know what it was but I was still curious where everything went. Convinced the ending wasn't going to be so bad.
It was bad.
OR Happy. I guess it depends on how you all see it.
For me, more would've been nice. Shall I start predicting the next books in the series, despite the fact that it's probably another messed up couple that keep lying to each other and have a terrifyingly bad amount of communication and trust. Where it's all about the sex. Yes. This book was all about her not being able to get over rape. It is honestly terrible. These things happen. Her parents not believing her?!
Does that actually exist?! Such parents cannot exist or they should not be named parents.
Their daughter was RAPED and they want to pay off the rapist's family in order to shut up but yet the school still finds out and parents.. what.. they paid them and the word still got out. How inconvenient for them. Really now. I would've liked the book more if her parents were the least supportive, or showed any kind of affection. Their only child and this shit happens and all they can do is worry about their reputation in the Club. I forgot what the Club was even for. Some happy family gathering thing or something. See. Jennifer, help me remember stuff don't make the entire book so unmemorable.
His character, I might've loved and everything around the moments when he kept asking her out and her rejecting him yet wanting to accept so bad. That was pretty great because-it was just cute and the fact that he tried so often and it turned into a joke. That was the perfect little corner of the book. Worthy of three stars. Okay, maybe less, because this is, again, a cliche.

  • The fact that it starts with her running into him and him coincidentally being the hot guy on campus is just..

  • The fact that he has ripped abs and is beautiful yet also notices her and wants to be all over her because she said "No," is again a cliche.

  • There's also a typical overly dramatic gay character who also happens to be her best friend.

  • A slut friend Cam has that keeps throwing herself at him,.

  • Molly who could've just sent her emails with the subject: "I was raped too." Which would've saved us from all of the harassment mystery.

  • Her parents, I won't even start.

  • The part where she throws herself at another guy to get him jealous.

  • The part where in the end she gets so drunk he's a nice enough guy to change her. Hmm... How many more cliches can this book haaaave?!

It will not take a genius to know why she's such a freakshow. OR is she really?! Besides the ridiculous part where she runs away from her first class, there isn't really anything to make her seem like a total freak. I did find a part of her reaction understandable (When unknown, drunk boy insists on grinding on her or something.) But Cam being there for the rescue is just a cliche off the charts. More? Oh yes, SOMEHOW they become project partners in class. SOMEHOW he picks her because the other more attractive, lonely girls don't run from getting to class late. Now, here's a ridiculous quote to end this review.

"I'm beginning to think cookies is a code for something else."
"Maybe it is." He tugged on my bag again as he took a confident step back, forcing me down another step. "And just think about it. If cookie was a code word, whatever it symbolizes. it's been in your mouth, sweetheart."

No! Just No.

Until Next time, Jennifer Armentrout

Court Of Mist and Fury (Court of Thorns and Roses, #2 by Sarah J. Maas)

Synopsis

After Feyre turns into a High Fae, saving Tamlin from Amarantha and saving everyone else under her curse, she returns to the Spring Court with the powers of a High Fae and a human heart. She struggles to get through night terrors that followed her since the day she had to perform the deeds Amarantha has asked her to. But that is not all. She made a bargain with Rhysand, the High Lord of the Night Court.
Now her heart splits between choosing to sit home with Tamlin and dress in pretty dresses and organize shallow events or choose to save the world from someone worse than Amarantha.

This book gave me all kinds of feels, I cant even begin to explain how amazing of a book nor how of an amazing author Sarah J. Maas is. I know the bookworms out there are beyond hyped about this book but this.has.been.beyond.my.expectations.

Where do I start?!

OH, yes, the writing style. I've had people complain about the amount of details stuffed into this book and I did not get what the hell they were talking about. I imagined everything so easily and smoothly. Not a second was I bored or frustrated with the amount of world development. I could see it all. I may have an extended imagination but it just seemed like there was the perfect amount of everything. Thanks to Dota 2, the creatures were easily imagined. If I did not get a creature, then I just chose to relate it to any of the heroes in the game. Basically every little thing took full shape and color in my mind and it felt like living inside the book. I almost want to go search for those Courts.

Click here to see more amazing art by this artist who created an accurate strong image of Feyre.

Character build. Hmm. If there is anyone out there comparing Rhysand to Damon from Vampire Diaries, I'll strangle a pigeon. No. Rhysand is the perfect kind of everything a girls dreams of. I may not be entirely into black-almost-long-haired men but Holy Moly, His personality has it all. The salt, lemon, honey, chilly and pepper in a nutshell. There's something about him, a dark mysterious and sweet twist to Rhysand that I can't quite put my finger on. And his continuous flirting makes it seem like the devil is playing with Feyre's mind. He really shows how a true High Lord should stand and he treats Feyre as an equal, despite his position in the hierarchy. This is more than enough to make me absolutely adore his entire character.

.

Feyre on the other hand, has developed so much in comparison to the first book. She's become more mature and aware of her feelings. She admits to herself that Tamlin was just the guy to go for at the time but she's moved on and frankly i'm extremely happy this book didn't turn into a typical love triangle where Feyre has to split herself between Tamlin and Rhysand. For a while, she with nobody and during those moments, she realized she was more than what Tamlin made of her. She's such a strong protagonist that empowers the idea of standing on her own two feet without anyone else holding her hand. Get what I mean?! She stands up to herself in front of Tamlin, in other words, she tells him to shove it when he argues that her actions have consequences. That.was.perfect.

Artist: Unknown although
I'd love to know.
Amazing Art!
The fact that Feyre believes Rhysand's intentions seem skeptical brings perfect sense into her actions considering how she's always doubtful about him yet still brings herself to know more about him. To us, he's this mysterious dangerous high Lord and it's just- we already know he's this unholy beautiful beast. Maas has introduced him in such a manner that made us want to learn more about him. Honestly, the second he appeared in Court of Thorns and Roses, I was totally hooked on him. Maybe it was the lack of romance between Tamlin and Feyre or simply the mask which by the way did make Tamlin seem super mysterious as well but like a light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-kind of mysterious.

This is probably the best possible relatable post to Ianthe

Amarantha

IANTHE. Oh, I had a feeling something was off about her. I thought it was jealousy at Feyre at first but then the way Feyre mentions her and how she explains how excited she is about events and how she's a know-it-all kind of person, I had a feeling something was off about her. At first I imagined she'd be like (you can disagree)  Daenerys Targaryen's sidekick, Missandei her name was.

Speaking of Devils. What do you think of this as a possible description of Amarantha?!

I didn't actually believe she was gone, even after everything that occured in the previous book. Who knew worse existed?!
Lucian

It makes me so happy to see so much fan art on these books. They were truly amazing and I know, I KNOW the next will blow my mind just like A Court of Mist and Fury did. Sarah J. Maas is indeed full of surprises.

The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel

Goodreads synopsis

After a brutal nuclear war, the United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group in a yearly ritual.

This year, it is my turn.

My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s son—my soon-to-be husband—and restore the Westfall family to power.

But Bishop Lattimer is either a very skilled actor or he’s not the cruel, heartless boy my family warned me to expect. He might even be the one person in this world who truly understands me. But there is no escape from my fate. I am the only one who can restore the Westfall legacy.

Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…

Review

I give  ★★★★★

Let me just say, this was an amazing book.

A lot of comments are just running around my mind right now but let me just say:

Ivy is such a great protagonist, she's just like arghh I don't know how to put it into words!

“I want to be someone strong and brave enough to make hard choices. But I want to be fair and loving enough to make the right ones.”

Okay, so something happened to her mom. Her sister, her dad and herself, Ivy, have a plan in motion: to marry the president's son and kill him. Kill the boy, no matter what for her dad to take over because the president's rules discourage freedom, and more importantly, punishment means throwing civilians over the fence. What happens over the fence? We don't know. We know it's dangerous but nobody who went there ever came back. THIS I LIKE.

She was raised for this, she was raised and trained to kill Bishop, the man she has to marry, or rather "boy" because he's only... what? 18? Despite the fact that he seems a lot mature. But the person who was supposed to marry him was her sister, which makes it even greater. I love the fact that it's not all happy family, bla bla it's family first bla bla, the kind of stuff you see everywhere. It was more of a "I should listen to my guts and not my family," sort of thing. I liked that even though she was doubting the whole plan, she still went through the steps, like she found no reason to stop. She explained each step, and us, the readers, understand what she had to do, but what we understood most were her doubts. She questioned his character throughout the whole book, and never quite let her guard down. But he is not like his dad!!

Bishop is such a nice, intelligent character. Okay "nice" doesn't say much, but he's so nice, like person-wise, like doing the right thing and all that. But then with the neighbors, he didn't take direct action to "fix" the problem (trying so hard not to spoil) and they get into these arguments which just fires up their relationship and makes them so "couple-like" and I think this book is too great and it finished too fast.

What I liked about the beginning was that it got straight to the point. That marriage. And the ending was just too much for me to handle, but I love love love cliffhangers that just overwhelm me. This book has a good cliffhanger, I'm telling you, it's perfect.

Okay okay, enough with the goody goody, I'll admit this book lacks a bit of chemistry between them but for people who have just met, the slow pace is the right pace.

It's a shame I finished this book so fast, my eyes could not leave the pages. There's a lot but too little on Ivy and Bishop's relationship. The author set this idea in our head that Bishop had to die so the good guys win. We anticipated that Ivy wouldn't go through with it, yet this book, as predictable as it seemed, still managed to surprise me.

We got the fact that he was a good guy, but we knew so little, Ivy knew so little. Bishop kept leaving and sort of just disappearing. His intentions were mysterious, and we don't even know how much the guy knows or if he was surprised or suspicious about Ivy towards the end.

SPOILER ALERT!

What Ivy wasn't trained to do was pretend she was happy with him, or the least affectionate and that was a problem we witnessed she was struggling with due to the lack of warmth and tenderness coming from her sister and father. Especially the father, since he seemed to be the most important figure she looked up to. She was trained to stay loyal to their plan however her own instincts became an obstacle as predicted, what surprised me was the fact that her family didn't show any signs of attempting to save her in the end, even if she could've easily betrayed them in a worst possible way. Despite the fact that they were the one who manipulated her into going through the plan blindly with missing facts about what had really happened with her mother.

I found the reasons behind her father's takeover rather foolish, when the king had absolute no control over what happened.

Ivy is a loyal, determined, and impulsive protagonist, definitely the right characteristics for her role in this dystopian world of conflict. Which might make Bishop the antagonist, who is reserved, calculated and definitely patient.

The world they lived in lacked the details we needed to imagine, but it the small bits we got on how the houses looked and the fence were enough to provide us with information that would help create their world. It was simple, and I suppose the focus was more on the characters rather than the world they lived in.

I understood Ivy's reasons for doubting the plan and for making the decisions she made. It felt like her reaction to everything was carefully expressed and she's a wise protagonist. I was really happy with everything. I was pained to see how Bishop kept thinking she was better than that, even when she showed him no reason to believe she was otherwise. She held her emotions carefully despite how painful it was. No character deserves to pick who to betray, and even though her actions may have made it seem like she was betraying Bishop, I wouldn't have thought of a better decision. More importantly, there's a whole new thing To look forward to, it's not just a moment, but a whole new world. I am beyond excited for the next book!

This series has so much hope.

Goodreads Synopsis

Review

I give ★★✩

I'll admit, I've been avoiding reviewing this book because I was so unhappy with it, 2 stars is me being super generous, and the ending kind of earned it a star. Like the fact that she became this person that sort of brought everything together and fixed an issue the "mean girl" (Aphrodite) But it just doesn't leave me wanting to read more even though the ending is kind of a cliffhanger.

This is such a childish book.

1. I'm so tired of hearing the phrase "Hags from hell."

I get it! I get it, no need to repeat it in every damn page. I don't care how evil or stupid these girls are, I already get the fact that, that group of characters don't like those girls, but stop for the love of God.

2. Who cares I just may have created a weird bond with my ex, but let me just whatever it and not tell anyone.

I'm sorry what?

3. Let me go for that one guy I almost saw getting a BJ in the hall that other night because why the hell not?!

Yeah, Erik Night is the one.

4. Let me still act like a total child even with the most powers out of everyone ever met in universe.

So unlike anyone ever met in their world, Zoey has an affinity for all 5 elements: air, water, earth, fire and spirit. WOW. If only Nyx marked her brain too and talked some sense into her judgemental mind.
5. Big deal she likes blood, she's a vampire, what's so embarrassing about that, it's like me saying "Uh, I hate Nutella, let me not tell my friends cuz' I'm ashamed of it."

She has a weird mark, why would it be a surprise that she developed a little faster.  And what world involves vampires who don't drink blood, this is waaaaay out of my comfort zone, which was fine because I was looking for something a little different, instead I ended up with a children's book in my hand...

6. We were given very little information on her parents and the religious people to understand what was so wrong with them.

7.  For a protagonist I see no character development in the future.

I read a book to learn

8.  The antagonist is no different than the protagonist, Aphoridte just picked a stupider group of friends.

Wasp and Warlike? What the actual hell?! Just say their name for the love of God, I don't even remember it because stupid Zoey decided it was easier to call them names that aren't even names or words. Way to complicate them characters.

9. What isn't wrong with Zoey's friends.

It feels like they all lack personality.

The Twins: Oh wow they just said the same thing lets do that every time we're mentioned to prove our point. Let's call ourselves twins even if we're not related, because what makes twins twins is the fact that they always have the exact same thoughts and answers. I know twins that are quite human and not each others' parrots. The Casts made them fake characters, know what that is? I just invented it, it means you can have no emotional connection to them. The lack of thought put into these characters made me very, very, VERY PISSED.

Daemon: Has this crush on Erik Night and everyone needs to remind him that "he's not playing for your team." We get it friends, we get it, he's just being a guy with a mini crush, can't he do that?! However the way the Casts describe him may seem offensive to those who are gay and "act all girly." Because no, no Daemon isn't this way, but let's discriminate those because they aren't the kind of gay people we would want in this perfect little book.

Stevie Rae: So she's a sweet, country girl with a country-girl accent. I have nothing against this one except... Oh wait nevermind, she's stupid.

10.  MODERN TIMES

Blowjobs are a normal thing: no they aren't Zoey. Not everyone wants to do that. And if they do it's none of your damn business. And in the HALL?! So much idiocy...
Skinny like Paris Hilton: I have no idea how Paris Hilton even looks like, that's an irrelevant reference to a known pop star (she's a singer right?!) so I had no idea how anorexic-looking Aphrodite was.
They made religious people seem like these really absurd, closed-minded people with no goals in life but to worship whatever they worship. Also humans are just... I don't even know, like if you're not. Vampire, you're either an idiot or a religious person. Okay....
What is up with everyone famous being a vampire because humans aren't gorgeous enough?! It's not about looks, I've seen singers look not so pretty and sing like .... Amazing...
This is definitely a vampire world I will never read about.

Ahhhh i'm frustrated with this book, it took me so long to finish it. It's so damn boring and there's no real thinking behind it and I'm praying that the next 3 books have a more mature tone to them, at least the last one. I made the terrible mistake of buying the first 4 books. NEVER BUY A BOXSET FROM AUTHORS YOU NEVER READ FROM.

My new books:

My beautiful books have arrived a few days ago, I was so excited to finally get them. Paper Towns would by my first John Green book and the House of Night series seemed just amazing, I've been meaning to buy them for a while now. The four books, Marked, Betrayed, Chosen and Untamed were the only ones I found in the box set on Bookdepository.com, I highly recommend this site, it definitely surprised me with an early arrival!

Ignite Me (Shatter Me series #3 by Tahereh Mafi)

With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn’t know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won’t keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that’s not all he wants with her.

Review

I give  ★★★★

It felt odd not knowing what had happened to the battle. And she got shot, and my all time favourite character had saved her, and it was all too beautiful, and then it all shattered so fast because everything was not alright after that, and things got worse and this book did not stop being interesting for a second. I absolutely loved it. No words can describe how amazing this book was.
And she thought Adam was gone and I was so happy he was out of the picture.
Juliette became such a different character, in Unravel Me, she was slowly changing into this warrior and then in this book she was finally one. The character development is so great, that the person she'd become in comparison to the one she was is so different that you wouldn't tell its the same character.
Juliette's point of view had proven a point that most characters don't. She looked at Warner as this monster, evil person without knowing his true intentions and the idea of him that she'd first interpreted had been all wrong and she only realizes this (and we realize with her) in this book.
There are so many Warner moments that have completely warmed my heart, and I wish I'd left a sticky note in every one of those pages with those moments. I'd probably fill this page of quotes because there are so damn many of them, so so so many and yet not enough. I wish this series had never finished, I wanted to see how Warner and Juliette rule the world.

I had a feeling this was what it was, I didn't know Juliette didn't know of, now I don't know if it was mentioned in Destroy Me

"Juliette. love,"' he says softly. "There were no speakers in that room. That room is entirely soundproof, equipped with nothing but sensors and cameras. It is a simulation chamber."
"No," I breathe, refusing to beliebe. Not wanting to accept that I was wrong, that Warner isn't the monster I thought he was. He can't change things now.

Yeah you gotta accept that, hun.
Because Warner is just P.E.R.F.E.C.T
His intentions and him all together.

The thing about this book from the other two, yes she had stayed at his house in the first book, but this time it's so different. I was happy with the second book because there were so many Warner moments, but then this book is just like full-on Warner and she hardly doesn't see him and she takes his side and stands up for him, sort of, in front of ADAM

"It's not charity," I snap. "He cares about me-and I care about him!"
Warner nods, unimpressed. "You should get a dog, love. I hear they share much the same qualities."

I was so done, it was final, my choice was definitely Warner, always, always Warner.

And then...

"You're a coward," he whispers. "You want to be with me and it terrifies you. And you're ashamed," he says.
"Ashamed you could ever want someone like me. Aren't you?" He drops his gaze and his nose grazes mine and I can almost count the millimeters between our lips. I'm struggling to focus, trying to remember that I'm mad at him, mad about something, but his mouth is right in front of mine and my mind can't stop trying to figure out how to shove aside the space between us.
"You want me," he says softly, his hands moving up my back, "and it's killing you."

"You deserve so much more than charity," he says, his chest heaving. "You deserve to be alive."
He's staring at me unblinking.

"Come back to life, love. I'll be here when you wake up."

YAS!

This is only 58 pages in.

Warner aside now, Kenji happens to be a favourite of mine too.  Favourite part was when Lily, one of the girls says she's one of the only talking girls and Kenji answers with this about Juliette. DIED.

"Oh she talks," Kenji says, shooting me a look. "Cusses like a sailor, too."
"I do not cuss like a-"

But it is also in this scene that I start disliking Adam, the fact that he can't understand that they can work together to achieve the common goal, and for his brother. He wants Juliette, but they can't just run away and I was amazed at all this because he's a soldier and then he just wants Juliette and to run away and for what? A little happiness and constant running and hidding.

"STOP!" Adam explodes. "Stop trying to get me to understand a bunch of bullshit! I can't deal with you anymore."

Excuse me? What did he just tell her, because I just felt an imaginary hand slap Juliette's face, and for what? Just because his fairytale dreams didn't come true?

Not team Adam, no, no, how could I have even considered it at the beginning of the first novel.

KENJI AGAIN!

This character is so so so easy to understand, he is loyal and his mind is clear and Juliette knows she can trust him, and I'm surprised she didn't fall for him, maybe in a world without Warner, she would have. He is so down to earth and great and I would definitely trust his judgement, in the book, and if I'd ever meet someone like him. His honesty and charisma is just-Wow.

"So tell me again why you like Warner so much? Did he, like, take all of his clothes off or something?"
"What?" I gasp, so glad it's too dark for him to see me blushing. "No," I say quickly. "No, he-"
"Damn, princess." Kenji laughs, hard. "I had no idea."

OMG THIS! IMPORTANT!
"That's because you're not fragile," Kenji says. "If anything, everyone needs to protext themselves from you. You're like a freaking beast," he says. Then adds, "I mean, you know-like, a cute beast. A little beast that tears shit up and breaks the earth and sucks the life out of people."
"Nice."
"I'm here for you."
"I can tell."
"So that's it?" Kenju says. "You like him for his personality, huh?"
"What?"
"All of this," Kenji says, waving his hand in the air, "has nothing to do with him being all sexy and shit and him being able to touch you all the time?"
"You think Warner is sexy?"
"That is not what I said."
I laugh. "I do like his face."
"And the touching?"
"What touching?"
Kenji looks at me, eyes wide, eyebrows up. "I'm not Adam, okay? You can't bullshit me with your innocent act. You tell me this guy can touch you, and that he's into you, and you're clearly into him, and you spent the night in his bed last night, and then I walk in on the two of you in a freaking closet-no wait, I'm sorry, not a closet- a child's bedroom-and you're telling me there has been zero touching?" He stares at me. "Is that what you're telling me?"
"No," I whisper, face on fire.
"You're growing up so quickly. You're getting all excited about being able to touch shit for the first time, and I just want to be sure you are observing sanitary regulations-"
"Stop being so disgusting."

I can't this book is too damn amazing, just re-read it, I have no words, I might as well just quote the entire book because it is freaking amazing!

Unravel Me (Shatter Me series #2 By Tahere Mafi)

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

Review

I give  ★★★★

I wasn't sure where this book was going, with the underground people and all that. All Juliette ever did was feel sorry for herself
"I'm a monster."
Oh don't touch me.
"Adam are you ok? Did I kill you?
"I could've killed you, I could've killed you, Adam-"
ENOUGH!
Gosh, halfway through this book this woman won't stop feeling sorry for herself, so what if he dies? It's not her fault. None of this is!
And all of this stops as soon as Kenji finally says:

"You have to live with it, just like the rest of us."
"You and Kent need to sort out your drama ASAP."
And I think this guy saved Juliette from all the imaginary slaps I would have given her if she felt sorry for herself one more time.

Juliette also catches a glimpse of Warner's humanity at the beginning of the book. I had to read "Destroy Me", a novella on Warner's point of view to see what he'd been doing for the first 100 pages of "Unravel Me".

I loved so much about this book, especially that Juliette improved so much and developed into this new person, with courage. It was a slow improvement, and I suppose I didn't see her greatest potential here but her character was different. She got up and she faced her abilities. She ends her relationship with Adam as an act of protection, and I suppose without being in a relationship with him, she is more able to be independent. Especially when she faces Warner's father, that was so great.

All I know is that my hand is around Anderson's throat and I've pinned him to the wall, so overcome by a blind, burning, all-consuming rage that I think my brain has already caught on fire and dissolved into ash.
I squeeze a little harder
He's sputtering. He's gasping. He's trying to get at my arms, clawing limp hands at my body and he's turning red and blue and purple and I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying it so, so much.
I think I'm smiling.

This is the real juliette we all want, and a glimpse of her is what we get to see in this book. I loved this scene, mostly because it all took me by surprise and I would not stop reading, I was a machine with no stop button and it was beautiful.

And then my favourite parts come along, where Juliette needs to visit Warner for information until those visits just sort of become a necessity. I loved those short moments. I knew it would be the beginning of something more between them.

"He hasn't moved an inch since I stepped into this room. He's resting on his side, his back to the wall, his left arm tucked under his face, his right arm against his torso, his entire body perfect bare, strong, smooth, and smelling faintly of soap. I don't know why I can't stop staring at him."

This is so sweet, she's finally discovered that she's physically attracted to him! Ah. Finally.

I suppose this book is more about the development of her relationship with Warner, and it could not have made me happier. It was such a great book, with tiny little events that complete the entire story.

Kenji is another favourite character. He's just so down to earth, honest and funny. He definitely makes things a lot easier for Juliette, and I would give him so much credit for his friendship and advice. He's made me laugh countless times and I don't know if this book would have been the same without him.

"I mean, I just have to say-the last line? 'I wish I could love you less'? That was genius.Really, really nice. I think Winston actually shed a tear-"

DIED.

This book is about choosing between Adam and Warner, I only hope that your choice is as good as mine. And the next one is better.
